Yellow-billed Magpie Range MapYellow-billed Magpie Range Map
The Yellow-billed Magpie is a year-round resident in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys, and in the valleys of the coast ranges from San Francisco Bay south to Santa Barbara County in California. In farming country, foothills and valleys, it inhabits broken oak woodland interspersed with grasslands or cultivated lands, open riparian woodland, oak savannah and vacant city lots. The Yellow-billed Magpie avoids areas with high strong winds, cold snowy winters and very dry hot summers. It prefers tall trees in a linear arrangement, such as trees bordering streams, parklike groves or orchards.
