HummZinger®
Ultra Testimonial
After using Aspect's
Hummzinger Excel hummingbird feeder for
three (going on four) seasons now, I didn't think
it was possible to improve on the design. I was
wrong. After less than a month of using the Hummzinger
UltraI'm sold on
this design with its Nectar-Guard tips. The Ultra
has all of the features of the Excel (which I
still use) but, in addition, it has Nectar-Guard
tips that prevent insects from
entering the reservoir and contaminating the
nectar. These tips are soft, pliable pieces that
fit over the feeding ports. They allow the
hummingbird's beak to pass through to the nectar
but are rigid enough to keep insects from passing
through. The Hummzinger Ultra is mounted just
outside my office window while the Hummzinger
Excel is mounted in front of the living room
picture window. It took the hummingbirds less
than a week to start feeding at the Ultra. A male
Ruby-throated Hummingbird has now claimed the
newest feeder as his own, chasing away any others
who may try to feed at 'his' feeder. Just last
night, a persistent interloper was doing her best
to feed at the Ultra, but the male would spread
out his tail feathers and actually made contact a
couple of times in flight to let her know that
she wasn't welcome. That is why we still use the
Excel feeder (out of sight of the Ultra feeder)
so every hummingbird has a chance to feed in
relative peace. The Ultra's nectar stays fresh
longer than the Excel's nectar (this may be due
to a number of factors including the Nectar-Guard
tips, sun exposure and the use of the HummBrella - a
plastic dome that covers the hummingbird feeder).
Once the nectar starts turning cloudy due to
bacteria, it's time to whip up a fresh batch of
nectar, clean the feeder with hot water and hang
it back up with the fresh nectar for hours of
more hummingbird-watching enjoyment.
